Destiny 2 players have been looking for Black Spindle for months, and it appears that some players may have finally found a major clue. Players on Reddit encountered a secret quest on the planet Io, which leads to a timed mission — very similar to how the Black Spindle exotic sniper rifle was originally found in the original Destiny.
Players have discovered that the Taken Blight public event found in Lost Oasis area of Io also spawns a Taken boss. The beast Urzok — a taken version of the Knight from Destiny — will roam around the area. When he’s killed, a portal will spawn, allowing a Fireteam to enter the quest.
Once inside, Guardians will be given an official quest on the side of their screen called “The Whisper.” A 20-minute timer will also appear. When the timer hits zero, all players will be ejected from the quest and will need to wait for the public event to respawn.
Players are currently unsure where this quest leads, although the many similarities and details gleaned from datamining Destiny 2 suggest that this will almost certainly lead to the Black Spindle exotic sniper rifle.
Update: Whisper of the Worm — an exotic sniper rifle that is nearly identical to Black Spindle — has been found in Destiny 2. If “The Whisper” is completed on time, players are able claim the gun for themselves. The intrinsic perk of Whisper of the Worm is White Nail, which gives the gun higher precision damage and also refills the magazine after rapidly landing three precision hits in a row.

Completing “The Whisper” will not only give you Whisper of the Worm, it’ll also activate a heroic version of the mission on the world map. This mission can be launched at any time from orbit and has a recommended power of 400. Completing the heroic version of “The Whisper” will give the Whisper of the Worm catalyst.
In addition to spawning orbs on multikills, completing the catalyst will give Whisper of the Worm Box Breathing, a perk that increases damage after looking down sights for a prolonged period of time. To complete the catalyst, players will need to collect Blighted Essence by replaying “The Whisper” on heroic.
