Disenchantment Comic-Con trailer teases a charming story about claiming independence

A coming-of-age story set in a fantastical world

Disenchantment, the newest series from Futurama and Simpsons creator, Matt Groening, is shaping up to be a charming coming-of-age series.

The trailer provides our best look yet at Bean, the main character voiced by Abbi Jacobson, who walks away from marriage to try and find herself. She sets out on a journey of self-discovery, jumping into a series of over-the-top, dangerous and charming scenarios. Bean, like Lisa Simpson and Futurama’s Leela, just wants the opportunity to find her place in the world without having to play into someone else’s idea of who she is deep down inside. The trailer also offered more information about Bean’s funny companion, Elfo, and her suave personal demon, Luci.

The official synopsis for Disenchantment reads:

From the mind of Matt Groening, comes the 10-episode adult animated comedy fantasy series, Disenchantment, launching on Netflix, August 17, 2018. In Disenchantment, viewers will be whisked away to the crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland, where they will follow the misadventures of hard-drinking young princess Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo, and her personal demon Luci. Along the way, the oddball trio will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools.

Abbi Jacobson, Nat Faxon, Eric Andre voice the main trio, with Futurama favorites John DiMaggio and Billy West also lending their voices. Disenchantment will start streaming on Netflix on Aug. 17.
