Aquaman stars in DC Universe Online’s next big expansion

Atlantis launches in November, a month before his movie

“I am Andrew Ryan, and I am—” wait, wrong game. This is Atlantis in DC Universe Online’s forthcoming expansion.

Aquaman, whose film (starring Khal Drogo) premieres in December, will headline the next big expansion for DC Universe Online. Atlantis launches in November, Daybreak Games announced this week.

The new episode will deliver Aquaman, Mera, Aqualad, Ocean Master, Corum Rath, Murk and pretty much anyone connected to the DC Comics Atlantean narrative.

Aquaman has been a part of DC Universe Online since the game’s 2011 launch — it just hasn’t yet visited the Atlantean kingdom. Interactions with those characters have taken place on the surface world. Aquaman did feature in a very late-level mission in the main playthrough, where Circe (one of the game’s three main villains) impersonates Mera and Aquaman, under her spell, battles the player character.

Jens Andersen, the game’s creative director until 2015 — and the voice of Aquaman himself until he left Daybreak (the hero has a new voice actor since then)— deliberately made him unbeatable within the instance. It’s resolved when Aquaman snaps out of it and teams up with the player to go after Circe.

Atlantis will feature single- and multiplayer adventures set within the kingdom of Atlantis, bestowing new gear, new styles base items and feats. “The team is going all out on this one, just like we did with Teen Titans, and it’s going to be a blast,” said S.J. Mueller, the creative director for DCUO.

Aquaman also stars in the summer-themed Tides of War event (which takes place in Metropolis). In fact, this year’s edition of the event is wrapping up today. It offers players five new feats, plus new collections, base items, styles and a summer-themed player aura.

DC Universe Online is an MMO for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. Base content is free-to-play. A myriad of expansion content, such as Atlantis, is available through episode packs ranging from $19.99 to $39.99, and an “Ultimate Edition” for $89.99 delivers everything.
