Here’s a first look at the Kill la Kill game

Arc System Works-published fighter coming in 2019

Studio Trigger’s anime Kill la Kill is being adapted into an arena-style fighting game by Arc System Works, the studio behind Dragon Ball FighterZ and Guilty Gear Xrd. Arc System Works’ take on the anime is called Kill la Kill the Game: IF, and it’s coming to PlayStation 4 and Windows PC via Steam next year.

The debut trailer for Kill la Kill the Game: IF debuted at Anime Expo this week, offering a brief glimpse of series protagonist Ryuko Matoi battling antagonist Satsuki Kiryuuin, the steely student council president of Honnouji Academy. The Kill la Kill game appears to utilize Arc System Works’ brand of anime-inspired visuals, with cel-shaded characters and a frame rate that mimics animated TV shows. Japanese studio APLUS, which developed last year’s Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time, is handling development of the game.

The trailer promises “the untold story” of Kill la Kill and notes that the game is being supervised by Trigger, so expect the anime’s story to be further fleshed out.

Kill la Kill the Game: IF will be playable for the first time at Evo 2018, which takes place in Las Vegas from Aug. 3-5.
