Iron Man to screen in IMAX for first time in new 20-movie MCU festival

Marvel is preparing to host another endurance marathon following Avengers: Infinity War’s release, but prepare for a couple of firsts.

Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk and Captain America: The First Avenger will play in IMAX for the first time, Marvel announced today. This isn’t a typical marathon, though. Twenty Marvel Cinematic Universe films brings the runtime to around 50. Fans aren’t expected to sit through it all at once.

“In the first five days of the marathon, all 20 films will be shown in their release order, followed by two theme days focusing on ‘Origins’ and ‘Team Ups,’ concluding on the morning of Sept. 6 with two films that will be chosen especially by fans,” according to a press release.

The majority of these films received IMAX releases upon their first run, but Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk and Captain America: The First Avenger never did. They’ve been outfitted for the format exclusively for the 10th anniversary event.

The marathon will work chronologically, meaning that films will appear as they were released in conjunction with the cinematic universe.

Marvel and IMAX are billing this as a festival; That’s why it’s taking place over an entire week instead of just three or four. The festival’s schedule is below.
