Bungie is changing how players gear up in Destiny 2: Forsaken

This should sound pretty familiar to most Destiny 1 veterans

Destiny 2 developer Bungie wants the nature of power acquisition to change in the upcoming Forsaken expansion, the studio said in its latest This Week at Bungie post. Bungie is looking to return the system to how it worked in the original Destiny, with the power cap being much more difficult to hit.

To achieve this, Destiny 2: Forsaken will give players higher power rewards when doing something difficult, and smaller power boosts when the activity is trivial. Some power changes will also be mysteries, and most have been removed from the Director.

For instance, a Guardian who manages to complete a raid when they’re 40 under the recommended power level can expect even greater rewards than before. Powerful gear will now always give at least a small boost to one piece, and will never come in weaker than your current power level average.

Bungie has also created more opportunities for powerful gear, although it seems as though the process will be slower than it was in Year One. After what sounds like a lot of feedback, Bungie has also tweaked exotics to always drop at (or above) the player’s current level, never below.

In Destiny, it was very difficult for players to reach the level cap. Bungie has stated that this should be the case again in Forsaken, although the company is remaining vague as to the process of leveling up as a whole. However, the studio promised something similar around the release of Destiny 2: Warmind, where it still only took some players about three weeks to hit the maximum power of 385.

Destiny 2: Forsaken will be released on PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One on Sept. 4.
