Nintendo Switch discounts, VR sales and more gaming deals

Mario Tennis Aces is on sale already

Nintendo Switch sales are rare — first party Nintendo games are hardly ever discounted more than a few dollars and the occasional bundle is one of the few times you can find a deal on the console itself. But when it rains, it pours. This week, some of Nintendo’s biggest Switch games were discounted by 25 percent and Walmart announced two new bundles that save an extra $30 each. The first bundle, a Switch + Labo Kit is available now, and a Mario Tennis Aces bundle will be available on Sept. 5.

VR games are having a big week as well. Both the Humble Store and Green Man Gaming are running sales on tons of virtual reality PC games, from huge VR RPGs like Skyrim and Fallout 4 to silly simulators with VR support like Catlateral Damage. If you don’t have a VR setup, Best Buy is offering $50 off an Oculus gaming bundle, which includes an Oculus Rift headset, Touch controllers and the VR game Marvel Powers United.

  • Two of our favorite dark fantasy action RPGs, Diablo 3 and Dark Souls are coming to Nintendo Switch. Bandai Namco announced that Dark Souls: Remastered will finally launch on Oct. 19, after multiple delays. Diablo 3 doesn’t yet have a release date, but is scheduled to launch later this year. Both games are available for pre-order at Amazon with a 20 percent Amazon Prime discount.
  • The first volume of Neil Gaiman’s expanded Sandman Universe was released last week, which will be followed four new series by fantasy authors Si Spurrier, Kat Howard, Nalo Hopkinson and Dan Watters. The Sandman Universe #1 introduces their new characters and re-acquaints readers with the realm of the Dreaming.
  • This week I completely devoured Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker while recovering from wisdom tooth surgery. It’s the perfect game to play on the couch while watching TV and eating ice cream. I played on my 3DS, but the Switch version is $5 off at Amazon right now. It’s one of the few first party Switch games that starts at $40, so you can pick it up now for $35.
