The official Tomb Raider YouTube account dropped a new trailer for the game over the weekend. It features all sorts of enemies players will encounter when Shadow of the Tomb Raider launches on Sept. 14. It also features an American soldier mispronouncing “Lara Croft.”
This, of course, rips open a wound as old as the Tomb Raider franchise itself: What is the correct or official pronunciation of “Lara,” and are American characters still allowed to mispronounce it, with the understanding that Yanks are supposed to mispronounce everything, such as “schedule,” and “aluminum.”
Anyway, you’ve got giant eels, piranha swarms, and a jaguar (pronounced: jag-you-ah) in addition to the Trinity soldiers and some angry looking Mayan types with swords.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is coming to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One next month. It will tie off the reboot trilogy of the adventure franchise, which began with 2013’s Tomb Raider. Gamescom begins this week, of course, so there will probably one more dose of preview info there before the game’s launch.
As for how to pronounce “Lara Croft” I found this handy guide.
