Life Is Strange 2 looks nothing like its predecessors, based on the game’s first teaser trailer. Running just shy of a minute, the video takes us to what seems like a much darker, more mysterious world — and it opens with a murder.
There’s a Resident Evil 7-type vibe to this teaser, which is presented as first-person cop car footage. The recording is dated Oct. 28, 2016, and it’s from someone named Officer Matthews.
“Oh shit,” he says. “Officer Matthews. We’ve got a 10-10 in progress.”
A 10-10 in police code refers to a fight, which we can faintly hear when Matthews tries to break it up off-camera. Based on both the tone of Matthews’ voice and what happens to him at the end of the teaser, it sounds like this is more than a typical brawl. Whoever he’s trying to stop is capable of flinging him across the street so hard, his entire car rolls over.
Is he dead? It’s hard to say, but if he could sustain that throw, maybe he’s the one with superpowers. Developer Dontnod Entertainment and publisher Square Enix promise that “all will be revealed” about this next experience in the Life Is Strange universe on Aug. 20. Life Is Strange 2’s first episode (of five) comes to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One on Sept. 27. Until then, you can download the prequel-of-sorts The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit for free.
Correction: Life Is Strange 2 takes place in the recent past of 2016, not the near-future of 2018. That’s fixed above.
