Shane Black’s The Predator looks like a throwback to the classic ’80s action films that many of us grew up with — and the upcoming movie’s latest trailer justifies the R rating. The aliens show up, people die and the blood flows by the bucket. You can watch the new trailer at the top of this post.
The trailer also shows us that the hunters have brought doglike creatures to Earth to make killing people that much more efficient. I’m not sure why you need an animal with a good sense of smell when you have thermal vision built into your armor and a host of other genetically enhanced abilities, but I guess they look cool? It’s also not a new idea; Predator-style attack dogs were first introduced in 2010’s Predators film, although their design was much different.
This is the last trailer before The Predator is released, and boy, does it lean into the violence. This is a franchise about huge alien creatures who hunt us for sport, and they’re pretty good at it.
At the same time, this may not be the most serious entry into the series, judging by the over-the-top action seen in the trailer.
The full synopsis of the film can be read below.
From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.
The Predator will hit theaters on Sept. 14.
