Red Dead Redemption 2 was first announced back in 2016, with Rockstar expecting to launch the game on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in fall 2017. That didn’t happen — the game is coming out this October instead — although the developer has released a few story trailers to whet our appetites. We’ll hopefully learn much more about the game, however, when we get a first look at Red Dead Redemption 2 gameplay with a video today. (Update: The video is now available in the embed above.)
What’s the story behind the game? Rockstar released alongside a trailer released in May:
America, 1899.
The end of the wild west era has begun as lawmen hunt down the last remaining outlaw gangs. Those who will not surrender or succumb are killed.
After a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him.
As for what we’ll see during the stream, that’s anyone’s guess. Expect a focus on either single- or multiplayer action, or we might be surprised by a game that blurs the line between the two. You can get caught up on everything we know about the game so far if you haven’t been following the news until now. We should see some interesting stuff tomorrow, either way.
Red Dead Redemption 2 will launch Oct. 26, 2018, on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Update (Aug. 10): Rockstar said in a PlayStation Blog post on Thursday that all of the footage in the gameplay video was captured from the PlayStation 4 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 running on a PS4 Pro.
