Destiny 2: Forsaken’s weekly reset bug will plague players into next week

Sorry, friends, save your powerful weeklies if you can

Destiny 2: Forsaken - Prison of Elders Bungie, High Moon Studios/Activision
Ryan Gilliam (he/him) has worked at Polygon for nearly seven years. He primarily spends his time writing guides for massively popular games like Diablo 4 & Destiny 2.

Destiny 2: Forsaken promised a different weekly reset, but things seemed to have changed a bit since that original post. However, the semi-weekly Saturday reset was bugged this week, resetting some activities unintentionally. While Bungie originally tweeted that this was a UI issue only, the studio recently revealed that the issue is far worse and will affect play for the next week.

In the tweet above, Bungie’s customer service account confirms that challenges for story missions, Gambit and Crucible will not reset on Tuesday, Sept. 11, as they would normally. For players who have consumed that accidentally reset challenge, they’ll no longer have any way to get powerful gear from the activities in question until a fix is in place.

While the challenges did accidentally reset this weekend, many players who had already completed the challenges reported no new powerful drops coming from the reset, despite what the UI was suggesting. This seems to a be a bug, and could perhaps be linked to Bungie’s character-specific reset each week, where only one character of one class can get loot from the same activity each week.

Update (Sept. 13): Bungie has deployed a hotfix for this issue that has restored any challenges not properly fixed by last Tuesday’s reset. Players can now complete these challenges for powerful rewards.
