The Last Remnant comes to PlayStation, only 10 years late

A remastered edition of the RPG heads to PS4 this December

Square Enix promised that The Last Remnant, a role-playing game that launched in 2008 on Xbox 360, followed by a 2009 Windows PC launch, would one day come to PlayStation 3. That never happened, to RPG lovers’ disappointment. But the developer clearly didn’t forget, because a remastered version of the unique title is now heading to PlayStation 4.

The Last Remnant Remastered, as seen in the teaser above, benefits from 10 years of graphical and engine upgrades. The look may have been tweaked, but the story remains the same: Players fight to save their country from years of war, all based on the collection of mysterious runes called remnants. Despite coming straight from the Final Fantasy house, there’s not many similarities here — The Last Remnant is set in a bleak world that’s far darker than the average Final Fantasy game.

Although it launched to mixed reviews in 2008, PlayStation fans will likely still appreciate finally getting their chance to play one of the last console generation’s rare Xbox-exclusive RPGs. The Last Remnant Remastered launches worldwide on Dec. 6, this time as a PS4 exclusive. Note: It will be available only on the PlayStation Store for $19.99.
