Bowser’s Inside Story is coming to the 3DS in January

Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr’s Journey will be coming to the Nintendo 3DS on Jan. 19, 2019, with a new chapter featuring Bowser Jr.

Nintendo gave the DS re-release’s release date during its September Nintendo Direct, though the new version was originally announced in March. The game will feature Bowser Jr’s Journey, which is an untold story of Bowser’s son.

Bowser’s Inside Story, developed by AlphaDream and originally released in 2009 for the Nintendo DS handheld, was unique for Mario & Luigi role-playing games in that it also let you play as Bowser. The story would play out between the two perspectives, as Mario and Luigi were trapped inside of Bowser’s body, trying to stop him from getting sick from “The Blorbs” so he can be strong enough to defeat Fawful, the trio’s common enemy.

Bowser Jr’s Journey, the game’s new section, looks like a tactics game similar to Bowser’s Minions, which was added to the 3DS re-release of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga from last year. You’ll control Bowser Jr. as he tries to help his father by gaining allies and setting up a team battle.
