Battlefield 5’s take on the battle royale genre is called Firestorm and will throw 64 players into the series’ biggest map in a contest to be the last squad standing, developer DICE said in a new video.
Firestorm will use a squad-based structure, meaning 16 teams of four players will battle it out together instead of players going solo. DICE also promises highly destructible buildings and the vehicle-based combat that Battlefield is known for.
Beyond battle royale, DICE’s new “This is Battlefield 5” trailer dives into what has changed in the Battlefield franchise for its new installment, and what the developer has planned after launch. That includes Tides of War, the sprawling event-based mode that will kick off with “The Fall of Europe” set in France in 1940. DICE promises new content on a daily and weekly basis for Tides of War, which will take the conflict to a new region, Greece, next year.
Battlefield 5 is coming to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One on Nov. 20. The game’s open beta kicks off today, Sept. 4, and runs through Sept. 11.
