A24’s High Life trailer sends Robert Pattinson on a mind-bending voyage through space

In space, no one can hear you ... conduct science experiments

Legendary French director Claire Denis’ (Beau Travail, Trouble Every Day) latest film, High Life, is a first in a few respects: the filmmaker’s first English-language film, her first set in outer space, and likely one of the strangest films you’ll ever seen.

Starring Robert Pattinson as one of a group of prisoners aboard a spaceship on an alternative energy mission, the film generated buzz from its world premiere last year at the Toronto International Film Festival for being wilder than anyone could have ever imagined. The purpose of the mission, overseen by Dr. Dibs (Juliette Binoche), is a mystery, involving human experimentation upon the subjects on board the ship, but it’s secondary to a larger story about the nature of love and survival.

The trailer hints at a little of what happens, as Pattinson is seen with a baby, and largely without the rest of his crew. It also showcases the rest of the film’s cast, including Binoche, and Mia Goth and André Benjamin as a couple of Pattinson’s fellow prisoners.

High Life hits theaters on April 12, 2019.
