Deck-building RPG SteamWorld Quest headlines new Switch indie games

Hand-drawn fantasy/steampunk world coming to Switch first in 2019

SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech headlined an indie game showcase for Nintendo Switch this morning. It’s a deck-building role-playing game with fantasy and steampunk motifs in its hand-drawn world.

Image & Form Games, makers of the SteamWorld line of games (four other launches going back to 2010) said SteamWorld Quest will launch “first on Nintendo Switch,” meaning this will be a timed exclusive.

On the game’s official site, SteamWorld Quest is said to have a deck of 100 “punch-cards” to help players get through the turn-based combat of their adventure. “What awaits you is a luscious treasure chest filled with gold, dragons, vivid worlds, magic, knights in shining armor as well as XP, turn-based battles and all that good RPG stuff!” Image & Form says.

SteamWorld Quest launches sometime later this year. It joins a lineage that includes SteamWorld Dig 2, which launched on Switch, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC in 2017 before hitting Nintendo 3DS last year. Its predecessor, SteamWorld Dig, came to Switch in 2018.

Nintendo’s indie showcase this morning also detailed Switch versions of CrossCode and Wargroove. Chucklefish, the publisher of Stardew Valley on the Switch, is the developer on Wargroove, a turn-based tactics game launching Feb. 1. CrossCode, an action-RPG by Radical Fish Games, was crowdfunded in 2015 and launched on Steam in September. The trailers for both are below.
