Infectious children’s anthem “Baby Shark” has made YouTube history as the all-time top trend in the “Education” category.

The original Pinkfong “Baby Shark” video sits at 2.3 billion views and is the most viewed, so-called educational video on the platform. The top 10 “Baby Shark” videos amass almost 5 billion views in total, making the catchy song the number one trend in the Education tag ever.

The original “Baby Shark” song is an old children’s tune, but in 2016, Korean children’s entertainment company Pinkfong revamped the song to be the upbeat, cheery melody that we know today. It was in 2018, however, that the song really hit popularity, generating a #BabySharkChallenge that only fueled the fishy flames. It’s since been meme’d, and various remixes of the original have been made by Pinkfong and others.

Earlier this month, the Pinkfong version of the song even entered the Billboard Top 100 chart at No. 32.

In addition to the successful YouTube videos, Pinkfong has various Baby Shark-themed apps and a whole line of merchandise on Amazon.
