Olympic-style volleyball hits consoles, PC with Spike Volleyball

Coming Feb. 5 to PS4, Xbox One and Windows

The next sports simulation-style game coming to consoles is Spike Volleyball, for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. It launches Feb. 5.

To be clear, this is not beach volleyball, which has had a memorable and raucous history in mainstream video gaming, peaking about 15 years ago. It’s Olympic-level volleyball, as more than 50 national teams will contest the six-players-a-side version that’s played on courts.

Spike Volleyball was created in Unreal Engine 4, and will feature both men’s and women’s teams on its roster. Motion-captured athletes and traditional TV presentation-style elements will help polish the looks. Local and online multiplayer is available, as is a career mode. The game will be $39.99.

Spike Volleyball was developed by Black Sheep and published by Bigben Interactive. Bigben, based in France, put tennis back into console gaming last year (for the first time since 2011) by publishing Tennis World Tour, made by alumni of 2K Czech’s Top Spin series.
