Control will get its Photo Mode this week

The much-requested feature is almost here

The first thing I went looking for when I opened up Remedy Games’ Control was a Photo Mode. The game’s Brutalist architecture, with its geometric shapes and dramatic lines, is captivating — paired with Jesse’s powers of destruction, there are so many interesting ways to capture and change the environment.

Since Control’s Aug. 27 release date, I’ve just taken screenshots of the game. But now Remedy Games is adding the highly requested Photo Mode with its next update, scheduled for Oct. 16.

“Considering all these strong visuals, there was no question that a Photo Mode was something we needed to do for Control,” community manager Vida Starcevic said in a PlayStation blog post. “It’s a chance for you to express your creativity, and put your mark on the world we’ve built by capturing the moments that matter to you.”

Control players will find Photo Mode from the options menu. Camera movement is controlled — heh — by the left and right thumbsticks. There are two tabs, Remedy said: camera and filter. Camera is for changing “specific options that you would find in a regular camera,” like changing the field of view, focal distance, or aperture. The filter tab will give players access to 10 filters, as well as the ability to hide Jesse and other characters.

Remedy also gave a bit of information on its other upcoming updates. It said a “free gameplay mode” will be released at the end of 2019. “Everyone who owns Control will be getting the challenging Expeditions mode, in which Jesse will need to complete different objectives within a set time to get powerful rewards,” Remedy said. “But be on your guard — every Expedition that Jesse undertakes will come with different modifiers that make the encounter extra tricky.”
