The dragon appearing at the end of the Nier: Automata alliance raid in Final Fantasy 14 is just a fluke, according to an announcement from Square Enix this morning.
The new raid, The Copied Factory, released on Tuesday morning and a handful of players running it started seeing a bizarre dragon spawn at the final boss fight. While some fans were confused, others noted that this could be a sign that the crossover content might bring more to the story, like content based on the medieval-influenced parent of the Nier series, Drakengard.
Unfortunately that isn’t the case, as the developers just used the same test internal ID as another quest, so the Dying Dragon NPC from the other quest was popping up in the Nier raid.
Square Enix has since apologized, since the dragon’s red appearance really threw players for a loop and fans started putting on their tinfoil speculation hats. This bug won’t be fixed until patch 5.11 and Square Enix does warn players to not interact with the NPC, as it can potentially cause issues in the raid.
