It’s Mackenzie Davis vs creepy children in a creepy mansion in first trailer for The Turning

It’s a big year for Henry James

If you don’t like spiders, you might want to look away right now.

Okay, maybe the giant spider coming out of a kid’s mouth is only one split second of the chilling trailer for The Turning, a modern adaption of Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw.

The Turning follows a young nanny played by Mackenzie Davis (Black Mirror) who takes a job in a remote and spooky mansion. Her two charges are the spunky Flora (Brooklynn Prince from The Florida Project) and the unhinged Miles (Finn Wolfhard of Stranger Things and It fame). There is something amiss in this creepy house full of creepy corridors and creepy kids.

Incidentally, this is just one of two modern adaptations of Henry James’ gothic novella coming out in 2020. Netflix horror anthology The Haunting of Hill House is set to get a second season entitled The Haunting of Bly Manor, which will also be a modern redux of The Turn of the Screw.

The Turning comes out in theaters on Jan. 24, 2020.
