Destiny 2 players are bullying this raid boss off the map

A unique way to kill the Consecrated Mind

Ryan Gilliam (he/him) has worked at Polygon for nearly seven years. He primarily spends his time writing guides for massively popular games like Diablo 4 & Destiny 2.

In true Destiny fashion, players have already discovered a new strategy to defeat one of Destiny 2: Shadowkeep’s newest bosses — one where players don’t actually fight at all.

The Consecrated Mind is one of the boss fights in the Garden of Salvation raid. It’s a Vex Harpy that players follow through the first two fights of the raid, only to finally confront it in the penultimate fight.

The arena for the Consecrated Mind fight is a large diamond, filled with winding hallways and death pits for players to fall into. Normally, players need to chase the boss down these death hallways and solve a visual puzzle; all while their allies contribute progress toward lowering the boss’ defenses.

But players have discovered a new way to bypass the Consecrated Mind completely. If Hunters throw a smoke grenade near one of the pit hallways, there’s a chance the Consecrated Mind will get confused, focus on the smoke grenade, and plummet to its death. Check out Cheese Forever’s video above to see it for yourself.

Just because the Mind goes down the pit doesn’t mean the fight ends. Players still need to go through the shield-lowering process for the boss — leaving the team of players that usually follows the boss around with not much to do. When the shield is down and the game discovers the boss is already dead, players instantly receive their new raid loot.

This unique way of defeating a boss goes all the way back to Atheon, the first final boss in Destiny raid history. During the ultimate battle of the Vault of Glass raid in the original Destiny, players used Solar grenades to push Atheon off the map, killing him instantly and spawning a loot chest.

Players are already dubbing this new Consecrated Mind strategy as “the Atheon cheese.”
