Final Fantasy 14 will be getting Final Fantasy 7’s Ruby Weapon as a boss fight in a February patch.
Patch 5.2 will include the first of the Shadowbringers expansion’s optional boss fights, which producer Naoki Yoshida said was “weapon”-themed, according to the recent livestream. The stream revealed the name of the fight, as well as a screenshot of the upcoming boss, Ruby Weapon. The Extreme version of the fight will also be available in patch 5.2.
Ruby Weapon is one of the optional fights in Final Fantasy 7, and can be found in the desert once players go to the Gold Saucer for the first time. Ruby Weapon is not the hardest fight in the game — that title is reserved for Emerald Weapon. While the development team for Final Fantasy 14 didn’t exactly confirm the appearance of the other weapons, fans are already speculating that we’ll see Emerald Weapon and Diamond Weapon as bosses in later patches.
Ultima Weapon is already available to fight in Final Fantasy 14 as both a boss in a dungeon and as a separate Ultimate fight, the latter of which is classified as one of the hardest fights in the game. Many other Final Fantasy titles are referenced throughout the game as well, including Kefka, the antagonist from Final Fantasy 6, as a raid boss. There’s even a Nier: Automata raid.
The timing for Weapons in Final Fantasy 14 is great, as Final Fantasy 7 Remake will release on March 3, 2020, soon after patch 5.2 drops.
