New trailer for Pixar’s Onward implies that magical taverns are basically Denny’s

Meet Octavia Spencer’s character, a frazzled manager

Pixar’s latest film, Onward, takes place in a suburban fantasy world, where elves, unicorns, and fairies live alongside grocery stores, lawn mowers, and garbage trucks — a world where despite the magical population, real magic has all but vanished.

The last trailer for Onward revealed the main gimmick of the movie: after being gifted a magical staff, brothers Barley (Chris Pratt) and Ian (Tom Holland) perform a botched resurrection and end up summoning only half of their father. And it’s not even the part that can talk, hear, or recognize them in any way.

Stumbling through the suburban fantasy world with only a pair of legs, the two brothers must find a way to fully summon their dad before a 24 hour period ends. This new trailer reveals the next part of their epic quest — a tavern for heroes run by the fearless Manticore (Octavia Spencer). It ends up being some sort of family-friendly dining establishment ala Denny’s and Manticore is Cory, the fearless manager.

Onward comes out in theaters on March 6, 2020. Check out the new poster.
