Apple Arcade just got a surprise, gorgeous Lego game

One block at a time

Continuing its streak of steady surprises releases, Apple Arcade has one more goodie for its subscribers before the holidays: Lego Builder’s Journey, a more meditative take on the Lego universe. Where most Lego games adapt existing properties into an action romp, Builder’s Journey tries for a more artistic approach.

Lego Builder’s Journey is “poetic” puzzle game about “connections,” according to the App Store description.

“Throughout the narrative, there will be ups and downs, challenges and celebrations,” the description continues. “Take the time to experiment, and most importantly, to play as figuring out who we are and what we become is the Builder’s Journey.”

Notably, Lego Builder’s Journey has a striking art style that is used to create evocative mini worlds. Each diorama takes up only a single screen that you can move around and observe. The puzzles often revolve around forging a pathway for your heroes by placing down blocks. Even when you’re building something simple, though, the animations are so good that there’s something weirdly satisfying about putting the pieces together. It also helps that the music is calming and evocative enough to set a peaceful mood.
