The first teaser for Marvel’s long-gestating Black Widow movie shows Natasha Romanoff in action one last time — and a few others for the first.
The movie takes place right after the events of Captain America: Civil War and before the events of Avengers: Infinity War. A preview at San Diego Comic-Con revealed the full cast, with Florence Pugh (Midsommar), David Harbour (Stranger Things), Rachel Weisz (The Mummy), and O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid’s Tale). Now we see them in action, with Natasha Romanoff returning to confront her past and wipe out some of the red in her ledger.
Pugh plays Yelena Belova, another recruit of the Black Widow program, who once shared a close sisterly relationship with Natasha. The two women face off in this trailer, which also shows off Rachel Weisz’s enigmatic Melina and our first look at David Harbour’s super soldier/mentor figure, Red Guardian. As for the villain — that’s none other than the Taskmaster, whose powers involve learning and perfectly mimicking the moves of his adversaries.
Black Widow premieres on May 1, 2020. It will be the first of the Phase Four Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, kickstarting a new saga while saying a final goodbye to an MCU staple.
