During today’s Direct, Nintendo announced that Rune Factory 4 — released in Japan in 2012 and 2013 in the US — is coming to Switch later this year. The remastered version of the Nintendo 3DS RPG continues the series’ legacy of farming and battling through dungeons; think of it as fantasy Harvest Moon / Story of Seasons, as both are developed by Marvelous Interactive.
The Switch’s special edition of Rune Factory 4 also adds features to the marriage system. Players can woo and eventually marry villagers that accompany them into dungeons and on quests. Nintendo promises that players will be able to experience the newlywed life in this new version of the game — however, the extent of those features aren’t entirely clear.
At the end of the Rune Factory presentation, Nintendo revealed a bigger piece of news: that Rune Factory 5 is in active development. No screens were actually shown of the game — only a single image of the Rune Factory title and the number five.
Rune Factory fans will be able to get their hands on Rune Factory 4: Special on the Nintendo Switch sometime this year. The release window for Rune Factory 5 is currently unknown.
