Nintendo is bringing the first chapter of Toby Fox’s Deltarune, the follow-up to the ultra-popular cult hit Undertale, to the Switch eShop on Feb. 28, 2019.
The “spoiler-free” trailer features a variety of scenes from the game covered by smiling cartoon dogs, in order to protect the game’s actual content. “There aren’t actually that many dogs in the game,” the trailer assures players.
More chapters that will be released for an unknown price are currently in development.
While it’s clear that the creator of the game is trying to keep everything about the experience a surprise, the rest of this post will feature some commentary on the original release of Deltarune. You have been warned.
“Like Undertale, Deltarune has non-combative combat and bullet hell-like battles to defend against,” Allegra Frank wrote in her impressions piece about the PC version of the game. “But there are still differences that likely won’t become obvious until the full game arrives. It’s not clear how far along this demo is, nor which portion of the full game — if there is going to be such a thing — it represents. It seems like Fox dropped the very first three hours of Deltarune, but part of the fun here is how mysterious everything still is.”
Correction: The original version of this story stated the download will be available today. The download is going live on Feb. 28, 2019. The story has been corrected to reflect this.
