Mortal Kombat 11 adds Johnny Cage, Hollywood goofs, and a truly great fatality

Everything about Johnny Cage in MK11 is perfect

Johnny Cage is confirmed for Mortal Kombat 11. More important is that virtually every aspect of Johnny Cage’s appearance in MK11 — from his incredible fatality to his action figure to his Fatal Blow — is 100-percent ridiculous and hilariously on-brand.

Classic moves like Johnny’s green fireballs and shadow kicks are here. And many of Johnny’s fighting variations from Mortal Kombat X appear to have made the transition to Mortal Kombat 11. Johnny punches the heck out of Scorpion with a pair of brass knuckles, a la his Fisticuffs variation from the previous game. And stunt double moves look to return, only this time, it’s an actual Johnny Cage stunt double, not a shadow-like mimic.

Johnny also has some Very Hollywood moves as part of his Mortal Kombat 11 appearance. He can throw his sunglasses as a projectile. He can blind enemies with a camera flash. And he can create a protective box by miming its four invisible walls. When he does his Fatal Blow attack, he bludgeons and stabs his opponent with his off-brand Oscar for Best Actor.

But it’s Johnny Cage’s new fatality in Mortal Kombat 11 that has people talking. Evoking his triple-decapitating uppercut — originally a glitch from Mortal Kombat 2 — Johnny attempts to punch the head off his opponent, Kabal, three times before finally getting the job done.

The kicker comes when Johnny busts out his very own action figure.

Mortal Kombat 11 is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One on April 23.
