Bubsy heads to Kickstarter, if you really want to give Bubsy more of your money

One goal: even more incessant Bubsy chatter

Despite few people asking for it, Bubsy the Bobcat is continuing on his comeback tour. Publisher Accolade is launching a Kickstarter campaign to support yet another current-generation Bubsy game, Bubsy: Paws on Fire!, which is due out in April.

Accolade says that the Kickstarter campaign won’t go toward funding the full game — that’s already near completion, presumably, with its launch date so close — but instead downloadable content. Should the team make its $25,000 funding goal, Bubsy: Paws on Fire! will not only offer two extra costumes for the bobcat, but also “more Bubsy in-game chatter.”

Stretch goals include more costumes, another character (which looks a bit like a Bit.Trip hero, based on its silhouette), new levels, and a new boss. Backers will also receive the game, its soundtrack, more Bubsy games, and several of Choice Provisions’ Bit.Trip Runner games. Both the DLC and backer rewards arrive sometime this summer.

Accolade first announced the game in October, alongside a new developer for the not-at-all venerated franchise: Choice Provisions, known for its work on the Bit.Trip series of platformers. With the change in developer also comes with some blessed improvements over last year’s Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back. For one, we won’t be forcibly subjected to Bubsy’s “witticisms” throughout the game, which Accolade calls an “auto-runner.” There are four playable characters in total, which should shield us from Bubsy’s nasally enthusiasm, at least somewhat. The Kickstarter trailer above shows that Bubsy’s niece and nephew aren’t above calling him out on his narcissism, too.

The Bubsy: Paws on Fire! Kickstarter campaign begins today, Feb. 5, at 1 p.m. ET., and the game itself will launch on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC this spring.
