The second Hellboy trailer reveals apocalyptic stakes

“Raise some hell!”

The newest trailer for the Hellboy reboot doesn’t hold back from the violence.

While Guillermo Del Toro’s Hellboy movies were rated PG-13 for sci-fi violence, the upcoming Hellboy earned an R rating from the MPAA in February, which Hellboy creator Mike Mignola promised when he announced the film in 2017. Lead actor David Harbour elaborated on this in December, stating “This movie is gorey, I mean it’s like a horror movie. There’s a lot of blood in it. It’s brutal.”

That gore is on display for this new trailer, as Hellboy joins up with the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (B.P.R.D.) to defeat the medieval sorceress Nimue the Blood Queen (Milla Jovovich).

Also joining the cast are Ian McShane (American Gods) as Trevor Bruttenholm, head of the B.P.R.D; Sasha Lane (American Honey) as Alice Monaghan, a love interest of Hellboy’s in the comics; and Daniel Dae Kim (Lost) as Ben Daimio (a role that was recast after Ed Skrein stepped away amidst claims that the role was being whitewashed).

This reboot comes 15 years after Del Toro’s first Hellboy movie, which starred Ron Perlman, and 26 years after the character’s first appearance.

Hellboy comes out April 12.
