DuckTales just gave the Moon Theme real lyrics

30 years after Capcom’s game came out for NES

Whenever someone rounds up the best chiptunes of all time, the Moon Theme from Capcom’s 1989 classic DuckTales usually makes the top 10. Well, 30 years later, Disney has given the song lyrics and added it to the Ducktales canon.

So, here you go. It’s now, officially, “Della’s Moon Lullaby.” Huey, Dewey and Louie’s Mom sings it to a, erm, baby creature to get it to sleep, proving that even hideous spider-like monster babies (technically, this is a moon mite) can be adorable, too.

Paget Brewster supplies the vocals as Della’s voice. The song was written by Jake Kaufman, Mark Mueller and John Smith, per Disney. The scene is from the latest episode, “Whatever Happened to Della Duck?” which aired on Disney Channel yesterday. In this show, Della crash lands on the Moon and befriends the mite’s Mom, which assists her in getting to the next stage of the journey.

If you need a refresher on the Moon Theme, here’s the original tune.

DuckTales launched Sept. 14, 1989, at the apogee of the Disney Afternoon show’s popularity. It returned in 2013 with DuckTales Remastered. The TV show rebooted in 2017, the 30th anniversary of the original’s premiere. So, this is some nice wink-and-nod timing for the generation that grew up loving both show and game.
