You vs Wild, a new interactive survival show hosted by Bear Grylls, will arrive to Netflix in April, as the line between the platform’s movies, TV, and game mediums continue to blur.
The show will star Grylls, who previously hosted the show Man vs Wild for the Discovery channel, as he attempts to survive in extreme conditions and climates. Unlike other survival shows, however, You vs Wild will ask viewers to make decisions to determine what Grylls does and whether or not he succeeds or fails in his quest for survival. The series will take Grylls to a variety of locations including jungles, mountains, deserts, and forests, across eight episodes that will let viewers control his choices.
This is Netflix’s first high profile follow-up to last year’s interactive movie, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. Netflix has offered interactive entertainment on its platform before, like the interactive Minecraft show produced by Telltale Games, but Bandersnatch was the first to combine traditional live-action, visual storytelling with interactive elements, something that apparently proved to be successful for the streaming company. Now, with You vs Wild, Netflix will attempt to expand to a larger scale and offer viewers more choices and more interactive content.
You vs Wild will premiere on Netflix on April 10 with all eight episodes available.
