A month before the release of Avengers: Endgame, Marvel has unveiled the official character portraits for all the heroes and allies. For the most part, the character posters are very similar: a close-up portrait of the character looking dramatically into the distance, with “avenge the fallen” written across their forehead.
But there are some differences between the posters. Characters left alive at the end of Thanos’ snap (the Decimation, as it’s known in-universe) have posters in color. This includes obvious ones that we knew: the core crew of the Avengers (Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, (Mo)Hawkeye, and the Hulk) as well as Ant-Man, Captain Marvel, Okoye, Nebula, Rocket, and Rhodey.

Also included are characters whose fates we weren’t quite sure of: Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, for instance, who wasn’t in Infinity War at all and who many presumed to have died in the beginning with the rest of the Asgardian refuges, as well as Benedict Wong’s Wong, who had been left to guard the Sanctum. Pepper Potts and Happy Hogan are here too.

Meanwhile, those who didn’t make it to the end of Infinity War got posters in black and white. This includes everyone who got snapped: T’Challa, Star Lord, Dr. Strange, Peter Parker, Scarlet Witch, Nick Fury, Groot, the Wasp, Sam Wilson, Bucky Barnes, Mantis, Drax, and Groot.

Characters who didn’t get snapped, but instead were killed by Thanos in other ways, also get the memorial treatment: Loki, whom Thanos stabbed in the very beginning; Gamora, whom Thanos tossed off a cliff for the Soul Stone; and Vision, who died when Thanos removed the Mind Stone from his forehead.

But there is one big character whose fate we never saw unfold on the screen, who we didn’t even realize could be considered missing until the first trailer: Shuri. While many (including Angela Bassett, who plays Queen Ramonda) maintained that Shuri was alive, the first trailer revealed a big MISSING underneath a holographic image of the Wakandan princess. Her fate immediately was up in the air.
Unfortunately, with the reveal of this black-and-white poster, it looks like Shuri is also dead. (Press F.) Did she get snapped? Did she get up in the crossfire somewhere else? We don’t know the full story just yet.

Avengers: Endgame comes out on April 26. Till then, let these posters fuel more fan speculation.
