A month out from Avengers: Endgame, Marvel released character posters that officially revealed who survived the events of Avengers: Infinity War — and who didn’t.
The tagline “avenge the fallen” inspired many to pay tribute to their favorite dead fictional characters outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “Avenge the fallen” just sounds pretty cool, and over the years, plenty of characters have met untimely fates, be it beheading, getting their souls kicked out of their bodies, or disappearing into the forgotten recesses of the mind.
Though Luigi is not technically dead in any media, the green Mario brother met his end in a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate trailer last year. This one’s for you, Luigi.

And of course, the most tragic fallen hero of all, Vine. You had a short life, yet a vibrant one, dear Vine, and you live on in Vine compilations on YouTube, and in your spiritual successor, TikTok.

While lots of these posters paid tribute to characters specifically outside of the MCU, some of them decided to take it back to where it started, either just for laughs or to side-eye certain choices.
We don’t know the lifespan of a flerken, but Goose the cat hasn’t yet appeared in any Endgame promotional material, so it’s possible that she too was snapped. If that’s the case, we’ve lost one very good flerken.

Another edit featuring Edward Norton (the original MCU Bruce Banner) and Terrence Howard (the original Rhodey) riffed on the casting changes of the MCU.

Another thread showcased many female characters of the MCU who have since been forgotten by the movies. Pour one out for Darcy Lewis, Jane Foster, and Sharon Carter, among others.

While we mourn the dead, we must ask: What is Thanos up to, now that he has decimated half of all existence? This poster answers that burning question:

Avengers: Endgame comes out on April 26. Then we’ll see just how the fallen get avenged.
