Drodostudio, the developer of the Auto Chess mod for Dota 2, is teasing two new hero units coming to the game.
Auto Chess is a popular mod for Dota 2. It has almost nothing to do with Dota, aside from using its art assets. Instead, it’s more like a board game. Players select pieces themed after Dota 2 heroes and place them on the chess board. The pieces do all the work — using their abilities on their own, moving around the board — to fight against enemy player’s armies. Players win if they put together the best army and outlive the rest of the game.
The studio posted two teaser pictures to Twitter with the caption “new heroes coming soon.” There are currently 58 Chesses in Auto Chess.

While not officially revealed or confirmed, players have already deduced the most likely candidates from Dota 2’s roster based on the silhouettes. The left image appears to be Zeus, a ranged nuker designed after the god of thunder from Greek myth. The right image is likely Zeus’ son and Dota 2’s newest hero, Mars. Mars carries a spear and shield in Dota 2.
There are no details on how these characters will operate in Auto Chess, nor is there a set release date for their addition. Players in the Twitter thread discussed an interesting possibility of a new race of pieces, as Mars and Zeus don’t really fit into the current races. For classes, Zeus will likely be a Mage, with Mars playing either Warrior or Knight.
