The last big Shazam! trailer goes for broke with super powers

If only Billy Batson knew how to use them

The final trailer for Shazam! brings some more childlike levity to the nitty-gritty DCEU, but pits the young hero against an electricity-slinging villain. We still don’t get much in the way of plot — is there more of this movie waiting in the wings? — but we do get plenty of Chronicle-esque found-footage comedy that actually lands (unlike Shazam himself).

Shazam! tells the story of 14-year-old Billy Batson, a troubled kid who ends up gaining the power to turn into a godlike adult superhero after uttering the word “Shazam!” He and his foster brother Freddy team up to figure out just what the extent of his powers — and stop the big bad with powers of his own.

Starring Zachary Levi (Thor: Dark World) as Shazam, Asher Angel (Andi Mack) as Billy Batson, and Mark Strong (The Imitation Game) as big bad Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, Shazam marks another notable departure in tone for DC movies, as the DC Extended Universe tries to find its footing after Justice League. The lighthearted, goofy Shazam follows the mega-fantastical Aquaman and will be followed in October by an ’80s-gangster take on the Joker.

Shazam! flies into theaters on April 5.
