It’s been more than four months since our first peek at the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog — and those legs — and now comes the time to process the movie’s take on Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik. Thanks to what appears to be a leak on the eve of the Sonic movie’s first trailer, we have a glimpse of Jim Carrey’s role as the hedgehog’s longtime nemesis.
The image was posted by the Segabits Twitter account, though it doesn’t specify the source of the leak. And it’s pretty basic: Jim Carrey in a red jacket, sporting a thick mustache, sitting in the cockpit of a ship, and wearing a pair of goggles. It’s a simple, straightforward interpretation of the cartoonish Robotnik.

But there’s no rumor about it. Polygon can confirm that that’s Robotnik as seen in footage from previously screened trailers for Sonic the Hedgehog. It’s legit. Reportedly, Robotnik’s look will change over the course of the film, with the leaked image representing the villain at his most normal.
We also expect the first official trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog on Tuesday, April 30, a day of reckoning for Sonic fans.
Sonic the Hedgehog is slated to hit movie theaters on Nov. 8, 2019.
