The first trailer for Stranger Things 3: The Game shows the cooperative nature of the retro-style, isometric adventure game coming on July 4.
No doubt, Stranger Things fans will be picking it apart for clues on where the new season is headed, too. That also premieres on Netflix the same day, and this game, by BonusXP, does double duty as a viewing companion. It’s still fully playable on its own, but BonusXP and Netflix are tossing a bone to fans who want to extend the experience after powering through all the shows.

In the trailer, fans can see some of the playable characters (there are more than 12) in Stranger Things: Season 3, some of whom are new to this season. They all have unique abilities to contribute to the adventure and progress through each level. There is split-screen local co-op, but no online play; the game can also be played solo.
Polygon previewed Stranger Things 3: The Game at the 2019 Game Developers Conference. “It’s all very simple and familiar,” we said, “but that may be a blessing.” Because it’s on Nintendo Switch, fans with that console can play along while watching the show, even. Stranger Things 3: The Game is also coming to PlayStation 4, Mac and Windows PC and Xbox One, with “a streamlined version” for mobile platforms.
