Ryan Gilliam (he/him) has worked at Polygon for nearly seven years. He primarily spends his time writing guides for massively popular games like Diablo 4 & Destiny 2.

On May 9, Capcom began a free Monster Hunter: World trial for PlayStation 4 players. Until May 20, players can download a free demo of the game and experience the opening hours.

Players start with character creation and can play through most of the story missions through Hunter Rank 4. Save data will also carry over to the full version of the game, if players decide to buy it after the trial. The trial also doesn’t restrict players from grouping up with friends that have the full version of Monster Hunter: World.

The trial is currently only for PS4 players. Once the trial ends on May 20, any players who don’t own the full version of the game won’t be able to log in. Currently, Monster Hunter: World has a 60% discount on the PlayStation store, and will set you back $19.99.

The trial comes as a companion to the recent trailer for the Monster Hunter: World Iceborne expansion. The game’s first expansion launches this fall, and takes players to a new, frozen land filled with more monster to hunt.

Even if players choose not to purchase Monster Hunter: World after the trial, their save data will stay tied to their PSN account. When Capcom releases Iceborne on Sept. 6, the new expansion will cost $39.99, with a $59.99 bundle that includes the base game.
