Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is Netflix’s prequel to the 1982 Jim Henson cult classic. The first full trailer was released today, bringing to life the vibrant world of Thra, with its Gelfings, Skeksis, and Mystics. True to the Henson tradition, all the creatures in the series are physical puppets and not CG.
Netflix’s Dark Crystal prequel trailer teases a Henson puppet epic
The Jim Henson cult classic gets the prequel it deserves
When Netflix first announced the series, it released a brief teaser, showcasing behind-the-scenes images from the original movie, with old footage from Jim Henson gushing about the project. Earlier this month, Netflix released images from the set of the new series.
But still images don’t show off the puppets the way actual footage does, and this first trailer is equal parts nostalgia and innovation. The world that many grew up with and loved is now reborn.
Taron Egerton (Rocketman), Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch), and Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones) fill the main voice roles, with the larger secondary cast including big names such as Mark Hamill, Helena Bonham Carter, and Keegan-Michael Key. Directed by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk), the series will consist of 10 hour-long episodes.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance premieres on Netflix on Aug. 30.
