New Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer continues the ending of Avengers: Endgame

Where does Mysterio fit into all this?

Spoiler alert for Avengers: Endgame: all of Spider-Man: Far From Home, basically.

The new trailer for the Spider-Man sequel is here, and comes with a necessary warning sign for anyone who hasn’t seen Endgame. The first seconds of the spot directly riff on the ending of the Avengers film so ... why don’t we throw up our own warning, too.

[Ed. note: this trailer post contains spoilers for Avengers: Endgame]

When the first trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home dropped, we smiled and laughed —- oh, Peter Parker and his lighthearted tomfoolery. But rewatching the trailer after Avengers: Endgame revealed hints of a heavier plotline. After all, there were the effects of Thanos’ snap to consider.

This new spot finds Peter Parker grieving over Tony Stark’s death. Happy Hogan is by his side for comfort, but like most teenagers, Peter finds solace in a backpacking trip across Europe. He wouldn’t be the first. Along the way, he’ll have to figure out what it means to be “the next Iron Man.”

The fun, friend-filled Eurotrip runs into disaster when Peter encounters giant destructive creatures known as the Elementals. He teams up with Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) to stop them. But is Mysterio the expert he says he is?

According to Fury, yes, but he’s not from our planet. In fact he’s a displaced hero yanked across spacetime after Thanos’ snap. Hello, multiverse (maybe)! And hello new father figure in Peter’s life.

Returning to the cast are Zendaya as MJ, Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and Jon Favreau as Harold “Happy” Hogan. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) will also appear in the film.

Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 5.
