Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2 shows off gameplay in a new trailer

Plus details on the bloody attack that starts the game

Charlie Hall is Polygon’s tabletop editor. In 10-plus years as a journalist & photographer, he has covered simulation, strategy, and spacefaring games, as well as public policy.

The team behind Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2 showed a brand new trailer at this year’s E3. It included the first glimpse of the player character’s initial Embrace and snippets of gameplay. A longer, extended gameplay trailer is also available on YouTube.

Bloodlines 2 will begin with a messy, mass embrace where many vampires are created all at once. Players will take on the role of one of those characters, and be welcomed into the world of the Masquerade by another vampire. Senior writer Cara Ellison said the other newly-created undead won’t be so lucky.

“When you were made as a very young vampire, a lot of other vampires were made at the same time,” said senior writer Cara Ellison. “They’re having a less lucky time in the world [...] going through vampire puberty on their own. They might have a family and a wife and children, who morally object to drinking blood. And you can find them throughout the world.”

Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2 will arrive in the first quarter of 2020. You can read more in our feature story, including a lengthy interview with the game’s writing team.
