The Spice Girls are finally making another comeback as a full group — this time, in an animated feature. The Hollywood Reporter reported today that Paramount Animation is in the early development stages of creating a new Spice Girls movie.
Currently, all five members of the original group — Melanie Brown (Scary), Emma Bunton (Baby), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty), Geri Halliwell (Ginger), and Victoria Beckham (Posh) — have signed onto the project. Paramount Animation president Mireille Soria told The Hollywood Reporter that the group “had an idea that [Paramount has] been developing” and that they are “very involved” in the process. The film will bring back Spice Girls classics in addition to new songs.
Simon Fuller (So You Think You Can Dance) will produce, with screenwriting duo Karen McCullah and Kiwi Smith writing the screenplay. The film is a part of Paramount’s upcoming animated feature slate, which includes The SpongeBob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge (May 2020) and Rumble (July 2020), which is based off of Rob Harrell’s graphic novel Monster on a Hill.
