Every movie and show coming to Netflix in July

Even with Netflix’s recommendation algorithm steadily serving you new movies, new TV shows and original programming tailored to your binging habits, the streaming service’s firehose of content makes what’s coming and going difficult to parse.

That’s why we break down each month’s additions with a spotlight on what to keep on your radar. Netflix’s own “new releases” category is an info dump. Consider us a picture-in-picture talking head, screaming recommendations at the screen.

The most exciting addition of this month is Stranger Things 3, which picks up just as summer hits Hawkins, Indiana. Queer Eye’s fourth season also hits the platform hot on the heels of its third season in March, with a fifth season on the way in 2020. New film additions include Cloverfield and Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds alongside the decidedly less serious Paul Blart: Mall Cop.

Cloverfield is a found-footage monster film that tells the story of an alien attack on New York City through the eyes of the people on the ground. Despite the fact that the most recent film in the franchise, The Cloverfield Paradox, was lackluster at best, the first film of the franchise merits at least a watch-through.

Designated Survivor: 60 Days (Netflix Original)

From Netflix: Designated Survivor: 60 Days follows the main storyline of the original format, but has been adapted to feature more of the Korean reality. It is a story of a politician, who suddenly ascends from the position of Minister of Environment to President, as an explosion at the National Assembly kills everyone in the Cabinet who is ahead of him in terms of the presidential succession. Park Mu-jin is a scientist-turned-politician who struggles to fit in politics. Park is the acting president for 60 days, and during this period, albeit inexperienced and unwilling, he tries to uncover the truth behind the attack.

Katherine Ryan: Glitter Room (Netflix Original)

From Netflix: Everyone’s favorite single mom is back with her second Netflix original stand-up special Katherine Ryan: Glitter Room, launching globally on July 1. A follow-up to her 2017 special In Trouble, Katherine toured Glitter Room across the UK with an unprecedented four-week run at London’s Garrick Theatre in the West End. After dividing The Belasco Theater audience on their love or dislike of the Kardashians, Katherine showcases her skillful and hilarious storytelling style with tales about following a man to Japan and meeting her daughter’s first celebrity crush, Anna Kendrick.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop

Perhaps best described as “Die Hard if Die Hard cranked the meme factor up to 11,” Paul Blart: Mall Cop has been a kind of internet cult classic since it was released in 2009. Despite being slammed by critics and audiences alike, its legacy still lives on through chaotic meme edits of its original poster, which features Paul Blart on his classic Segway.

With a wide cast of characters ranging from a benevolent heiress to a firefly prone to waxing poetic, The Princess and the Frog is a classic worth revisiting.
