Will this ease the crowd flow?

Reservations for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland end on June 24. The system mitigated the large crowds in the first month of the highly-anticipated land’s opening, but soon the doors will open to everyone with a ticket to the park, not just pre-registered guests and those staying at Disneyland hotels.

In order to keep Galaxy’s Edge running as smoothly as possible, Disney will introduce virtual queuing via the Disneyland app.

On days when Galaxy’s Edge is particularly crowded, the app will notify park goers whether they need to be part of a “boarding group” in order to enter. If so, guests can join a “boarding group” by installing the app on their smartphone, and touching a special prompt on the app. To ensure groups enter the land together, the app will ask guests to link the tickets of all members of their party who wish to enter Galaxy’s Edge at the same time.

Like when using a Fast Pass, guests can wander the rest of the park and do other rides and activities. A push notification will notify them when they can enter Galaxy’s Edge. Guests don’t need to enter right away; they will have two hours from the beginning of their reserved entrance time to get to Galaxy’s Edge.

Guests who don’t have access to the app will have an alternative method for getting a boarding group. According to the Disney Parks website, “[They] may be obtained with a park admission ticket at select Disney FASTPASS Service locations such as Haunted Mansion, Indiana Jones Adventure, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain or near the Matterhorn Bobsleds.

The system will not be required every day. If the app says that guests don’t need a boarding group, guests can proceed into the land right away.

The very popular Oga’s Cantina — the place where you can drink alcohol in Disneyland — and Savi’s Workshop — the place where you craft custom lightsabers — still need reservations which can be made via the Disneyland app or on each attractions’ specific website at 7 AM the morning of their visit to Disneyland. Reservations for either activity will grant entrance into Galaxy’s Edge for the scheduled time, similar to a boarding group.
