Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box, the second game in Level-5’s Professor Layton series, is now available on mobile platforms. The title launched yesterday.
First released stateside for Nintendo DS in 2009, this edition will deliver the original in high definition to Android and iOS devices. The game followed the series’ debut game, Professor Layton and the Curious Village, by about a year, likewise capturing fans interest in Level-5’s newest puzzle narrative series. Level-5 touted more than 17 million copies shipped in the decade-plus since.
In Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box, sleuths will tag along with Layton and Luke as they board the Molentary Express in search of the Elysian Box. Their journeys take them to the town of Dropstone, sitting upon a rich gold deposit and under the gaze of a spooky old castle. The story’s resolution ties into the third adventure in the series, 2010’s Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, also for DS.
Professor Layton and the Curious Village also launched in HD for mobile platforms back in January, which suggests Level-5 is rolling out the series on a schedule here. Both are $9.99. (The game is called Layton: Pandora’s Box in the U.K.’s App Store.)
