The latest official info trickle from the set of Bond 25 — an “on set” look that amounts to a minute-long music video — appears unremarkable on the surface. The video give us our first glimpses of Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel) and the returning Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter. Rami Malek, who was announced as the film’s villain, is nowhere to be seen.
What makes the video notable, however, is the spate of misfortunes that have been plaguing the production. In May, Craig underwent ankle surgery after injuring himself on set. The incident was followed by several other crew injuries and rumors that director Cary Fukunaga was throwing off the schedule because he was too busy playing video games (to which he responded by saying he hadn’t had time to finish Red Dead Redemption 2 precisely because he was too busy with Bond 25).

Our Production Designer/Artful master of living for the day, Mark Tildesley— commented to me once that being a director must feel like dying of a thousand cuts, because of the constant stream of questions one must field. There’s not a minute on this job that isn’t scheduled, and even during a shoot day, in the hours before call, between takes and setups, and after we wrap there’s always a line of dedicated and hard working department heads hungry to prep our next sequences, no one sleeps on this kind of job. So sure it’s hard, but it’s still the best job in the world and I’d never disrespect the hardest working cast and crew. We’re all in this together. As for my PS4 relationship, if my RDR2 progress is any indication, it’s been stunted at 63% for months and if anyone spoils the end for me before I wrap on B25 I’m going to be pissed.
Like the April press event that announced the beginning of filming (but held back on a flashy-and-expected title reveal), the video is all mood and little spectacle. Here’s what we already know: Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Rory Kinnear, and Lea Seydoux will all be returning, with new cast members Billy Magnussen, Ana De Armas, David Dencik, and Dali Benssalah joining up for the ride.
As for exactly what Bond (still played by Daniel Craig, who has expressed a desire to depart the franchise) will be up to, he’ll be on vacation in Jamaica — that is, right up until Leiter shows up asking for help rescuing a kidnapped scientist.
Bond 25 still has no official release date, but the film is expected to hit theaters on April 8, 2020.
