The film adaptation of the Uncharted franchise, titled Uncharted, has a premiere date: Dec. 18, 2020.
Sony Pictures announced Uncharted’s holiday 2020 release yesterday, along with several other films. The adaptation, which itself is an homage to high-adventure blockbuster flicks, will star Spider-Man’s Tom Holland as Nathan Drake.
The concept of an Uncharted-themed film has lingered in pre-production for years, with rumors dating to 2008. That’s less than a year after Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune launched for PlayStation 3. As far back as 2014 the film was said to have a release date “set in stone. Back then it was for 2016. The project is now on its fifth director, Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane).
The Hollywood Reporter reports Jonathan Rosenberg and Mark Walker are writing the screenplay because the “beast” of a script that Joe Carnahan (The A-Team) submitted in 2017 was no bueno. The story is now a prequel starring a younger Drake, and details how he met Victor “Sully” Sullivan. That change came directly from Sony Pictures honcho Tom Rothman.
